The basic rules for using Crossway Bible — kept short and plain.

Last updated September 11, 2026

These terms describe the basic rules for using Crossway Bible. By visiting or using the site, you agree to them. They're written to be short and plain rather than exhaustive, in keeping with the site's own straightforward, no-account approach.

Free to Use

Crossway Bible is free to use, in full, without an account or payment. Every Bible translation offered on the site is in the public domain, so reading, searching, comparing versions, and using the study tools carries no licensing fee or restriction from us.

Scripture Text

All Bible passages on the site are drawn from public-domain translations (currently including the World English Bible, King James Version, American Standard Version, Bible in Basic English, Young's Literal Translation, Geneva Bible, Douay-Rheims Bible, and Berean Standard Bible), retrieved from bible-api.com and bolls.life. Because these translations are public domain, you're free to read, quote, and share the Scripture text itself without needing our permission.

Original Site Content

Beyond the Scripture text itself, Crossway Bible's articles — including the Bible Topics, Bible People, and Bible Places pages, the book overview pages, reading plan descriptions, and blog posts — are original written content produced for this site. You're welcome to link to and quote from these pages with attribution; wholesale republishing or scraping of this original content elsewhere is not permitted without permission.

Study Tools Data

The site's Cross References, Strong's Concordance, Greek & Hebrew interlinear, and Commentaries tools draw on openly licensed public datasets (including CC0, CC BY, and CC BY-SA sources), with attribution shown on each respective tool page. Those underlying datasets remain governed by their own original open licenses.

The Bible Study Assistant Is Not Professional Advice

The Bible Study Assistant is an AI tool intended to help you study Scripture — it is not a pastor, counselor, therapist, lawyer, or doctor, and its responses should not be treated as pastoral, legal, medical, or psychological advice. On disputed theological or denominational questions, the Assistant is designed to stay balanced rather than take a side, and it will not always reflect the specific teaching of your own church or tradition. For matters of personal crisis, health, law, or significant life decisions, please consult a qualified, trusted professional or a pastor rather than relying on the Assistant's response.

Reading Plan Progress and Local Preferences

Reading plan progress and certain preferences are stored only in your own browser (see our Privacy Policy for details) and are not backed up by us. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, that progress will not carry over, and we are not able to recover or restore it since it was never stored on our servers in the first place.

No Warranty

Crossway Bible is provided "as is." While we aim for accuracy — particularly in Scripture text, cross-references, and study-tool data drawn from established public-domain and openly licensed sources — we make no guarantee that the site will be error-free, uninterrupted, or perfectly accurate in every detail, and we are not liable for decisions made in reliance on the site's content.

Some pages on Crossway Bible, including blog posts, link out to other websites for further reading. We do not control the content of external sites and are not responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices.

Acceptable Use

Please don't attempt to disrupt the site's operation, scrape or copy the site's original content at scale, or use the site's tools (including the Bible Study Assistant) for unlawful purposes.

Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time; the current version will always be posted here with an updated date above. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
